I am the Brand Director for HPIFF

I’ve been working with the Highland Park Independent Film Festival as a graphic designer since 2016. HPIFF is a grassroots organization, dedicated to inviting filmmakers who are producing the most unique and captivating independent cinema today to share their work with the community of Highland Park, CA.

My goal for every yearly campaign for this festival is to highlight the community that we’re serving, honor the history of Highland Park, and to increase brand recognition and awareness.

In 2020…

…when COVID-19 forced most festivals to either cancel or adopt a virtual format, HPIFF put our asses in gear and put together a drive-in festival in the parking lot of a mall. In addition to changing the concept of our festival mid-way through our planning, we had to shift our branding to reflect the unique format for the festival that year.

In 2019…

…my goal was to highlight the fact that our festival is a grassroots effort designed primarily to provide community enriching events to film fans in Highland Park. In order to express this, I developed the tagline “Film for the People” and painted and plastered graphics onto a photograph of a white brick wall in Highland Park.

In 2017…

…it was my first year designing for the festival completely on my own (the previous year I picked up in the middle of the season with someone else’s design). I created a collage celebrating film and Highland Park’s landmarks and history. This was my first year designing a campaign that needed to remain consistent across many pieces of collateral, and this concept allowed me to zoom in and highlight different aspects of the collage for different applications.
